Abstract
In typical park visits, individuals often observe the sky and the surrounding environment, yet overlook the intricate details beneath their feet. This study centers on Shoreditch Park, located adjacent to a local school, positioning it as the primary focus of our research. The project involves creating a comprehensive dataset comprising microscopic images of soil from the park, paired with corresponding auditory elements. Our objective is to uncover the relationship between the soil’s biological abundance and its associated sounds.
A key aspect of this project is the involvement of children from the nearby school in the initial data collection process. This participatory approach is designed to offer a tangible learning experience, encouraging children to delve into the natural world right outside their classrooms. By engaging in this activity, they gain the opportunity to perceive and appreciate the often-invisible biodiversity present in their immedi ate environment, both visually and aurally. This initiative aims not only to deepen their connection with nature but also to heighten their awareness of biodiversity, fostering a sense of environmental stewardship from a young age.
